Australian snowboarder Mia Clift wins World Cup silver medal in Canada

Australia's Mia Clift claims a silver medal in the women's snowboard cross at the World Cup event held in Mont St Anne, Canada.

Australia's Mia Clift has claimed a silver medal in the women's snowboard cross at the World Cup event held in Mont St Anne, Canada.

Clift secured second place behind France's Léa Casta in the big final via a photo finish, with Swiss Sina Siegenthaler placing third.

It was Clift's first World Cup medal of her career.

The result came a week after Clift took silver alongside fellow Australian Cameron Bolton in the snowboard cross mixed team final at the World Championships in St Moritz, Switzerland.

"It was such a fun day overall. I actually felt super chilled throughout the whole day which was nice," Clift said.

"Getting to race the big final with Lea, Sina and Aline [Albrecht] was fun and [we] really pushed each other all the way down."

Fellow Australian Josie Baff finished ninth.

Baff is fourth on the overall World Cup standings (424 points), with Clift in ninth position on 282 points.

Casta (705) sits in top spot on the standings.
