Celia Imrie has "a lot more energy" now she's got "two lovely new hips"

The Bridget Jones's Diary star, 73, has revealed she's undergone surgery to replace both her hips and the operations have given her a huge boost, but she still doesn't like going to the gym so she enjoys regular walks instead

She told The Times newspaper: "I loathe gyms, so my only exercise is walking. If I meet a pal I prefer to walk and talk rather than sit on my backside in a coffee shop. I've got two lovely new hips, which have given me a lot more energy, but I don't like telling people about them because they assume I'm 98."

Celia went on to admit she's not happy with her appearance now she's in her 70s, but she's determined not to "fiddle about" with her face using cosmetic treatments.

She explained: "I could probably make a bit more effort when I'm out in the morning. If I see my reflection in a shop window I think, would Joan Collins be seen in that?

"Life is too short to be worrying about these things but I do. I don't like being the age I am and I don't like my skin looking the age it is, especially on a big screen.

"But I am not prepared to fiddle about with it. I'm just grateful I'm still healthy and able to work."

Celia recently admitted she's glad she doesn't have to compete with her actor son Angus, 30, for parts because it could have been very different if there were two female performers in the family vying for work.

Celia is quoted by the Daily Mail newspaper's Eden Confidential column as saying: "I'm glad he's not a girl, only because we would be fighting for the same roles and that causes tension if there's two female actors in the family."

Angus has appeared in the hit TV shows Fleabag and The Crown and Celia is "terribly proud" of what her boy has achieved so far.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel star said: "I'm glad Angus is a whole generation younger and is in his own lane. I'm terribly proud of him."
