    New Zealand's population has reached a record high - of more than 5.3 million people


    The fertility rate in the year to June has risen -- from 1.55 births per woman, to 1.57.

    The infant mortality rate per one-thousand live births has also risen -- from 4.95 deaths, to 5.14.

    The population is about 50.3 percent female.

    The median age of females is 39, while the median age of males is 37.4.
