Sales of kiwifruit and oranges have surged as households stock up on vitamin C

Sales of kiwifruit and oranges have surged as households stock up on vitamin C

People have consumed up to 1.6 million kilograms more oranges than previous years, with sales of New Zealand navel oranges up 10 to 20 percent.

Citrus New Zealand domestic market lead James Williams says sales of pre-packed bags went through the roof during lockdown, and more shoppers are choosing to buy local.

He says New Zealand navel oranges are claiming back some ground from imported Australian mandarins, because people want food security and safety.
