Armie Hammer is to star in a TV series about the making of 'The Godfather'

The 'Call Me by Your Name' actor has signed up to portray film producer Al Ruddy in 'The Offer', a 10-episode drama for Paramount +, the streaming service which is set to launch next year

'The Offer' is based on the producer's experiences making the 1972 classic alongside director Francis Ford Coppola, who also co-wrote the screenplay with novelist Mario Puzo, and will include previously-untold stories around the time of making the movie. Further casting details for the miniseries have yet to be announced.

Michael Tolkin is writing and ex ecutive producing, while Nikki Toscano, Leslie Greif and Ruddy himself are also ex ecutive producers. Paramount Television Studios will produce the series.

It is not yet known when the show will debut on Paramount+, but it is unlikely to be backed by 'The Godfather' itself as earlier this year, ViacomCBS signed a deal with NBCUniversal in which a number of Paramount films, including the Mafia saga and its two sequels, will stream exclusively on Peacock from 2021-20223.

ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish announced plans for Paramount+ in September.

He said at the time: "Paramount is an iconic and storied brand beloved by consumers all over the world, and it is synonymous with quality, integrity and world-class storytelling.

"With Paramount+, we’re excited to establish one global streaming brand in the broad-pay segment that will draw on the sheer breadth and depth of the ViacomCBS portfolio to offer an extraordinary collection of content for everyone to enjoy."
