Cyclists have staged a protest near Matakana north of Auckland

Cyclists have staged a protest near Matakana north of Auckland

A peleton of cyclists rode slowly up Matakana Road yesterday morning to highlight the need for a coastal cycle trail between Puhoi and Mangawhai.

Coastal trail Fundraising Manager Meg Eriksen says it's an incredibly dangerous road for cyclists but there's no other options with the trail not being finished.

She says the protest was met with a positive response from motorists.

Eriksen says they got lots of toots and cheers from drivers.

Police say there were no calls for service from the protest.
