Kristin Davis was surprised by And Just Like That... coming to an end

The 60-year-old actress reprised her role as Charlotte York in the Sex and the City sequel series and was shocked when it was brought to an end after three seasons last month as she "assumed" it was going to carry on

In a preview of her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Wednesday (17.09.25), Kristin said: "Our commitment that we had made was a three-year commitment to each other, so we knew that part.

"But I just assumed that we were gonna keep going. That's how I am, you know what I mean?"

The HBO Max series had got a mixed response from viewers after first airing in 2021 but Kristin was "profoundly sad" after showrunner Michael Patrick King revealed in August that the programme would be ending.

The star - who had played the role of Charlotte since Sex and the City first aired in 1998 - wrote on Instagram: "I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever."

And Just Like That... ended after a two-part finale to the third season and King felt it was the right time to bring the show to a conclusion.

He said in a message posted on HBO Max's social media pages: "And just like that... the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end. While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That... season three, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.

"Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.

"SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years."

Sarah Jessica Parker, who portrayed Carrie Bradshaw in the series, wrote of her sadness at bidding farewell to a role that has "dominated (her) professional heartbeat" for nearly three decades.

The 60-year-old star penned: "Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all. I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt."
