The Department of Conservation is urging caution, with several tracks across Southland, Otago, and Fiordland affected by heavy snow, avalanche risk, and storm damage.
Operations Director Aaron Fleming says wild spring weather has caused slips, flooding, and significant damage.
He says rangers have struggled to fully assess conditions due to ongoing severe weather and the vast terrain.
The Routeburn Track remains partially closed, and the Milford Track's reopening has been delayed until November 19.
