New Zealand have won the opening one-day cricket international against the West Indies in Christchurch by seven runs

New Zealand have won the opening one-day cricket international against the West Indies in Christchurch by seven runs

The hosts held on after posting 269 for seven, thanks to Daryl Mitchell's 119.

Off-spinner Simon Harmer has led South Africa to a 30-run victory over India inside three days of the first cricket test at Kolkata.

Inconsistent bounce made life difficult for stroke-making as Harmer returned match figures of eight for 51.

South Africa produced innings of 159 and 153, and India contributed 189 and finally 93 in front of a 40 thousand strong Sunday crowd at Eden Gardens.

Golfer Daniel Hillier has missed qualifying for the US PGA Tour by two spots in 18th, after finishing in a share of 16th at 11-under par in the European Tour season finale at Dubai - he earns 180 thousand dollars for his effort.

Matt Fitzpatrick won the final event from overall tour winner Rory McIlroy in a play-off.

England have reversed the scoreline from the opening netball test against New Zealand, winning 61-58 in the second at London to keep the three-match series alive for the decider at Manchester on Thursday.

The New Zealand development XV have concluded their European rugby tour with a 45-21 win over Uruguay in France.

Argentina have beaten Scotland 33-24 in their test at Murrayfield, coming back from 21-nil down in the second half.

Supercars driver Matt Payne intends to help Penrite Racing teammate Kai Allen chase championship glory after having his hopes dashed during the Sandown 500.

He was in position to secure a top-four spot for the finale in Adelaide this month, before a collision with Cam Waters in the second race ended his ambitions.

The title contenders remaining are Allen, Broc Feeney, Chaz Mostert and Will Brown.

Parramatta have released wing Zac Lomax with three years remaining on his contract to pursue opportunities outside of league's NRL.

The New South Wales Origin representative has been linked to the R360 rugby competition.

The Eels agreed to the move on the basis he wouldn't join a rival NRL club without their permission.
