Andy Murray has tested positive for coronavirus

The tennis star will now self-isolate after it was confirmed he has been found to have COVID-19 and he is now in quarantine in his London home, multiple news outlets reports

It will throw his Australian Open plans into doubt as Andy was meant to travel to Melbourne on a chartered flight for the annual tennis competition in less than two days.

Andy was handed a wild card entry to the Australian Open 2021, which is due to start next month, around a three week delay off its normal starting date due to the pandemic.

Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley said of the open's decision to give Andy a wildcard to appear in the event: "We welcome Andy back to Melbourne with open arms. As a five-time finalist he has been an integral part of so many amazing matches and storylines in the recent history of the Australian Open. His retirement was an emotional moment and seeing him come back, having undergone major surgery and build himself back up to get onto the tour again, will be a highlight of AO 2021."

Back in October, Andy took on Fernando Verdasco - someone who he beat 13 times out of their previous 16 matches - and lost and he admits he needs to get back to the game after having some time off to undergo two surgeries on his hips including a resurfacing procedure

After the match, he said: "I need to practise, I need to play matches and physically I need to get better. Some things I did a little bit better but overall it was not that much better than the match in Paris. I need to get back to playing my game on the court. I’ve kind of gone away from that a little bit. I’m maybe making a few more mistakes than usual because of that."
