Queen Camilla wore the Diamond Thistle Brooch from Queen Elizabeth's jewellery collection as she joined King Charles at Scottish Parliament's 25th  anniversary

The monarch, 77, was with her husband, 75, when they made a trip to Edinburgh on Saturday (28.09.24) to celebrate the milestone, with the key royal jewel on prominent display on the front of a blue overcoat she wore for the occasion

It originally belonged to Queen Mary. the wife of King George V. and was passed down to her granddaughter the late Queen Elizabeth when she died.

Camilla has often chosen to show off the piece when visiting Scotland, which is beloved by Charles and was one of late mother Elizabeth's favourite spots on Earth.

Along with the thistle brooch, Camilla also paid tribute to Scottish culture with the tartan collar on her overcoat - which matched Charles' sporran.

Camilla and Charles were met in Scotland by its parliament's presiding officer Alison Johnstone and deputy presiding officers Liam McArthur and Annabelle Ewing.

In an address to an audience that included former first minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon, Charles hailed the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999 as a "new dawn" for the nation.

He said "This place has not just thrived, but in doing so has borne witness to the enduring relationship between Parliament, the Crown and the people of Scotland."

The king - who is receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer - also praised the "extraordinary diversity" of Scotland, which he said has a "uniquely special place" in his and his family's hearts.

He added: "Who could fail to be moved by this complex, Caledonian kaleidoscope?"

Charles' grandmother was Scottish and his mother, the late Queen, died aged 96 in 2022 at her beloved castle in Balmoral.

The tartan Charles wore during Saturday's event was specially designed to mark one year since his coronation and is based on the Balmoral tartan that dates back to 1850 and is woven from Scottish wool.
