Expected wet weather in the North Island tonight could bring flood risks

MetService has issued heavy rain warnings for Coromandel, Auckland, Northland and Bay of Plenty.

Wellington is under a strong wind warning, with gusts reaching up to 120 kilometres an hour in some places.

Meteorologist Samkelo Magwala says locals should brace for conditions to worsen.

He says thundery conditions can result in localised flooding.
