Legislation passed this year to let Police conduct random roadside saliva tests - similar to drink-driving enforcement.
The Government says about a-third of all road deaths involve an impairing drug.
Police Minister Mark Mitchell says rollout of the new tests will begin in the Wellington District - and cover the whole country by mid-2026.
