A Waikato prisoner's set to appear in court today, after allegedly escaping custody and assaulting two Corrections Officers during a medical appointment

Police say the Spring Hill Corrections Facility inmate carjacked a vehicle in the Waikato Hospital carpark, and used it to flee around midday yesterday.

Officers managed to spike the vehicle in Cambridge three hours later.

The 25-year-old man's facing a number of charges.
