Firefighters have been monitoring the fire near Canterbury's Lake Pearson closely, with strong winds overnight

Firefighters have been monitoring the fire near Canterbury's Lake Pearson closely, with strong winds overnight

They've been battling the 980 hectare scrub fire since Thursday morning.

Incident Commander Colin Russell says crews have been watching the perimeter for hotspots, but the fire's mostly under control.

He says the number of resources at the fire may reduce today if there's been no significant breakouts over night.

Motorists are advised there's also reduced visibility on State Highway 73, due to dust storms across the fire ground.
