Heavy rain and strong winds are set to lash the upper North Island

Heavy rain and strong winds are set to lash the upper North Island

MetService has issued a heavy rain watch for Northland from early tomorrow morning.

Auckland, Great Barrier Island and Coromandel Peninsula are set to be hit on Thursday, easing on Friday.

Forecaster Gerard Bellam advises people in these areas to hunker down.

He says to clear drains and gutters and make sure unsecured structures, like trampolines, are tied down.
