    Nelson residents were forced to evacuate last evening after a suspicious item was found


    Police closed a section of Waimea Road, after reports of the item and an alleged threat.

    The Defence Force Bomb Squad was sent to the site.

    Evacuees were taken by police to the Victory Community Centre, interrupting a lively council candidate meeting.
