Divided opinions on how deeply the Reserve Bank will slash the Official Cash Rate this afternoon

Divided opinions on how deeply the Reserve Bank will slash the Official Cash Rate this afternoon

Economists expect a cut to the current rate of three-percent - but are at odds over whether it will fall 25 or 50 basis points.

Some favour a gradual drop until there's more information - but others suggest we need to move the economy along.

ASB's Nick Tuffley expects there'll also be debate on the monetary committee - with disagreement over recent decisions.

He says what Governor Christian Hawkesby decides will be critical - because his vote counts twice if members are split three versus three.
