Christchurch Police are promising a wide investigation after the shock murder of a woman walking home from work

Christchurch Police are promising a wide investigation after the shock murder of a woman walking home from work

The victim - who was in her 50s - was randomly attacked on Cheyenne Street in Sockburn by a stranger wielding a knife.

She died at the scene despite efforts from medics... leaving behind a partner and children.

A 37-year-old man will appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow charged with murder.

    He is known by police.

Canterbury District Commander Superintendent John Price says scene examinations will continue for as long as it takes.

He says the scenes and background are deeply important, as well as working alongside the family.
