Sterling K Brown is happy to put his fate "in the hands of the universe"

The 48-year-old actor has enjoyed a recent run of success, starring in the comedy-drama film 'American Fiction' and the hit TV series 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel', and Sterling admits that he's been very fortunate in his career

The Hollywood star told Sky News: "I leave it in the hands of the universe and just say, 'If you want me to step here, I'll step there and whatever happens, happens'."

Sterling received an Oscar nomination for his performance in 'American Fiction', and the actor has now admitted that he didn't see the recognition coming.

He said: "I just knew it was a great story, a great script, and I wanted to be a part of it."

Sterling is happy to take the credit for his recent successes - but the actor thinks he's been lucky, too.

He explained: "People will give me credit. I'll take credit for having good taste, but you never know when lightning is going to strike, right?"

Sterling lived "beneath the poverty line" before finding fame and success. Despite this, the movie star has downplayed his struggles.

The actor - who starred in the 2018 Marvel movie 'Black Panther' - explained: "I didn't have a hard knock life.

"We grew up in a house. My mom was a schoolteacher. My dad was a grocery clerk. All our needs were met.

"But I would tape my basketball shoes up if the sole came apart because that fixed them. And my mom got mad at me one time, she's like, 'You know, we can buy you shoes?' I was like, 'Yeah, but I fixed them. What's the big deal?'"
