A former head of Kainga Ora has received an over one-million-dollar payout - including special payment

In June last year the agency announced Andrew McKenzie would step down as chief executive but would stay on to the end of October.

Andrew McKenzie's total pay included salary for October 1, 2023 until August 30 2024 as well as redundancy pay and a special pay in lieu of notice - despite his continued employment at the agency for four months after his impending departure was announced.

Kainga Ora has declined to provide a breakdown of the payout and declined to disclose what triggered the payment in lieu of notice.
