The public's being asked to help prevent anymore violence in Palmerston North

The public's being asked to help prevent anymore violence in Palmerston North

Police will now have increased powers after officers were shot at twice in a 24 hour period.

A 20-year-old man's been charged over the first instance - and Police are working to confirm links with the second.

The Gang Conflict Warrant will give police the ability to search vehicles of suspected gang members and to seize firearms, weapons and vehicles.

Central District Police Superintendent Dion Bennett says the public can do their bit.

He says they should report illegal firearms to the police.
