Jennifer Flavin believes that a lack of "structure" is leading celebrity children to identify as trans

The 57-year-old businesswoman and former model - who is married to Rocky actor Sylvester Stallone - has theorised that the number of transgender kids in Hollywood is increasing because adults are more concerned about self-expression than giving youngsters a stable upbringing

Jennifer told The Katie Miller Podcast: "I just think Hollywood is, you know, it's all about expression.

"So, you know, however you want to express yourself. If you feel like a cat today, you're a cat. And it's so loosey-goosey."

She continued: "I don't think that we're understanding that these kids. They're little human beings that need structure. And structure is really important for them because it helps their brain organise everything."

Jennifer - who has daughters Sophia, 29, Sistine, 27, and Scarlet, 23, with Stallone - thinks that privilege surrounding celebrity children sometimes takes the place of actual parenting.

She said: "Growing up in a Hollywood home, there's really no structure because you have this going, and you've got private planes. And you've got all these giant homes with chefs and secretaries and assistants and, you know, housekeepers and nannies.

"And there's just too much of everything. It gets really confusing for a little person."

Flavin stressed that it is fine for individuals to make their own choices when they are adults but underlined the importance of children being given a sense of direction.

She said: "It's OK what you decided to be as an adult. But raise them just with good common sense.

"My daughters were tomboys. They preferred to wear pants than dresses, you know? And they loved sports. But I never said, 'Oh, you're a boy now.' I just said, 'You love to play sports, you love to hang out with the boys, that's awesome.'"

Hollywood stars including Robert De Niro, Charlize Theron and Jamie Lee Curtis all have children who identify as transgender or nonbinary - with the latter revealing that she was taken by surprise when her youngest daughter Ruby came out as trans in 2020.

The Halloween star told People magazine the following year: "I knew Ruby had had a boyfriend. I knew that Ruby had used the word bi. But gender identity and sexual orientation - those are two separate things. And I knew that Ruby played female avatars in video games.

"But when you ask, 'Did you have an inkling that Ruby was trans?' I would say no. But when I replayed Ruby's life, I went, 'Hmm, that, that, those, hmm.'"
