Carly Pearce has spent years battling "crippling OCD" and anxiety

The 35-year-old country singer has revealed she's struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder since she was a child, but only sought help for her mental health when she realised she was suffering from anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic as she went through her divorce from Michael Ray

During an appearance on the Dumb Blonde podcast, Carly explained: "I would have told you, like, three years ago, my anxiety started during my divorce in COVID.

"But I've had crippling OCD since I was a child. So like checking my backpack over and over and over, checking my alarm over and over and over."

Carly went on to explain she later realised she's actually been struggling with anxiety for much longer than she thought, recalling an incident from childhood when her mother tried to help.

She said: "I remember her taking me to the local library to meet a meteorologist to try to calm that. So, I've had anxiety my whole life. I still struggle with OCD."

Carly went on to say she decided to address her issues back in 2020 as she went through her divorce and having therapy helped her realise the mental health issues had been there since she was young.

She said: "I think it just really came to a head of me wanting to do something about it during COVID ...

"I think my body just had, like, a visceral reaction of like: 'Oh my God.' And then ... I mean, I can't tell you how many interviews I sat through trying so hard to just, like, keep myself together. It's been like a journey for me."

Carly was married to Michael from 2019 until their divorce in 2020 and she recently revealed she's now in her "single era".

The Next Girl hitmaker told Us Weekly: "I feel in every way - no matter if it's the kind of music that I'm making or how I spend my days in my personal life - I'm choosing me.

"For the first time, I'm totally doing things 100 per cent the way that I want to, and I'm in my single era and kind of loving it for the first time in my life."
