Joe Biden is undergoing radiation therapy for his prostate cancer

The former US President announced in May that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease and his spokesperson explained that he is now having radiation therapy and hormone treatment "as part of a treatment plan"

The spokesperson said in a statement on Saturday (11.10.25): "As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, president Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment."

The treatment marks a new stage in Biden's care and is expected to last for five weeks.

The 82-year-old politician - who was frequently questioned about his health during his time in the White House - confirmed earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.

Biden wrote on social media at the time: "Cancer touches us all.

"Like so many of you, Jill (his wife) and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places."

A statement from his office explained: "Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms.

"On Friday he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.

"While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.

"The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians."

Biden's wife Jill has endured her own battle with the diseases and underwent surgery in 2023 to have cancerous lesions removed from above her eye and from her chest.

Meanwhile, the former President's son Beau Biden passed away aged 46 in 2015 after a battle with brain cancer.

Last month, Biden's spokesperson confirmed that he had undergone surgery for skin cancer after he was pictured leaving a church in Delaware with a wound on his head.

The former White House chief had a Mohs procedure - an operation used to treat the two most common form of skin cancers by removing the affected layers of skin.

He was previously treated for skin cancer during his time as president when he had a cancerous lesion removed from his chest in February 2023.

White House medic Dr. Kevin O'Connor revealed the lesion was discovered during a routine examination and was successfully removed.

In a letter, he wrote: "As expected, the biopsy confirmed that the small lesion was basal cell carcinoma. All cancerous tissue was successfully removed...

"They do, however, have the potential to increase in size, resulting in a more significant issue as well as increased challenges for surgical removal."
