Kaipara's new mayor has been named, following accusations of an unfair voting process

Jonathan Larsen will step into the role, following his stint as outgoing Mayor Craig Jepson's deputy.

Final results posted by the council tonight show Larsen won the race by 21 votes, ahead of iwi leader Snow Tane.

This comes as incumbent Kaipara councillors have voted to back a complaint letter to the DIA from Jepson, about election conduct.

He's worried the election wasn't fair - and says a mobile voting unit was used to harvest votes.

Electoral officer Dale Ofsoske has referred a complaint to the Police, but says he's comfortable with how the election was run.
