    MetService is warning of heavy rain for western parts of the South Island, and says severe northwest gales are possible for the Canterbury High Country tonight


    An orange heavy rain warning applies to the ranges in Westland from 6 this evening until midday tomorrow .

    Up to 180mm of rain is likely to fall at rates of up to 25mm an hour.

    The freezing level will be around 2,000 metres.
