More rain's on the way for many parts fo the country this New Year's Eve

Central regions are continuing to be impacted by recent severe weather - with hundreds of people still without power.

People in Foxton, Foxton Beach and Tokomaru are being asked to urgently conserve water, including reducing flushing and taking shorter showers.

MetService forecaster Thapi Makgabutlane says an orange rain warning's in effect for the Tasman Ranges.

She says the showers will continue into New Year's Day, but some areas could stay dry all night.
