    Kalyn Ponga has steered the Newcastle Knights to a 28-18 NRL win over the Cowboys in the season opener in Las Vegas

    The Queensland fullback - who had been out since July with a foot injury - took the load off high profile recruit Dylan Brown by laying on two tries.

    The Knights crashed to the wooden spoon in 2025 with Ponga missing the last three months of the season and he says he wanted to contribute.



    The Bulldogs lead the Dragons 10-8 in the second half.
