About 10 thousand homes are without power in Northland as crews work to turn the lights back on

For around a 1000 homes it could take a couple of days to sort out.

A smaller number - in Auckland have lost power.

MetService has warnings and watches in place for Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne - and Tasman.

There have been reports of wind damaging power poles and trees in both areas.
