A warmer than normal winter is expected for every region across the country

A warmer than normal winter is expected for every region across the country

NIWA's Seasonal Climate Outlook for winter has medium-to-high confidence in temperatures being above average from June to August.

It suggests cold snaps and frosts will still happen - but will be less frequent than usual.

NIWA's Chris Brandolino says winter could look very different for many.

He says people may use their heater less often - and snow-sport enthusiasts may have fewer chances to hit the slopes.
