Fire and Emergency responded to 166 calls last year, making it the worst year for fireworks-related fires since 2019.
There were also hundreds of ACC claims for fireworks-related injuries the previous year.
Veterinary Association chief executive Kevin Bryant says every year vets treat and euthanise stressed and injured animals.
He says it doesn't just happen over Guy Fawkes' Day, as people stockpile and use them throughout the year, giving pet owners no warning.
