A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Auckland, accused of stealing more than 50 chocolate bars

An off-duty officer spotted the man in the central city last night, arresting him before he allegedly ran off - and was caught again on Albert Street.

He's appearing in the Auckland District Court today - on three charges of shoplifting, escapes custody, and unrelated charges.

Last Friday, a retailer was arrested for allegedly receiving the chocolate bars.
