Attending suicide callouts is taking a toll on paramedics

An Otago University study interviewing nine paramedics found two of them had PTSD while others had symptoms of that condition plus anxiety and depression.

Psychologist Renan Lyra says a wider survey would be helpful to see if the results hold up.

He says they suggested some improvements to the system.

Lyra says they suggested increased training for dealing with families of victims.
