The mother of a missing 19-year-old has issued a tearful plea, begging her daughter to come home

The mother of a missing 19-year-old has issued a tearful plea, begging her daughter to come home

Maia Johnston hasn't been seen since going for a walk without her phone on Saturday night in Upper Hutt.

A search base has been set up at Totara Park school hall as the hunt enters a second day.

Her mother Amy Walsh says she's searched for 27 hours on foot since Maia's disappearance.

She says to her daughter that if she's embarrassed by all the people looking for her, and being all over the news, she should just come home.

Police are asking for anyone with CCTV in the vicinity of Harcourt Park and Brown Owl, as well as those in Totara Park, to check their footage for sightings of Johnston.
