Renee Zellweger has joined the cast of 'Only Murders in the Building'

The 'Bridget Jones' : Mad About the Boy' actress has signed up for a recurring guest role in the upcoming fifth season of the series alongside regulars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, and newcomers Christoph Waltz and Keegan-Michael Key

The Hulu programme's social media handles announced the news on Thursday (26.03.25) by sharing a photo of a director's chair with Renee's name on it, jokingly copying the five-and-a-half hour Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) livestream earlier in the day, in which the cast of 'Avengers: Doomsday' was released by showing a new chair with an actor's name on it every 12 minutes or so.

Further details of Renee's role in the fifth season of 'Only Murders in the Building' - which is currently in production - have yet to be revealed.

Earlier this year, the programme won Best Comedy Series Ensemble and Short landed the Best Actor in a Comedy Series honour at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

However, only Selena of the lead trio was at the ceremony.

She quipped as she accepted the ensemble prize with some of her co-stars: "We never win, this is so weird.

"Marty and Steve aren't here because they don't really care. I don't really know what to say."

Richard Kind then interrupted Selena to remind her to thank her missing pals and she added: "Oh and thank you to Marty and Steve for helping raise me."

Short later explained he had missed the event as he had contracted COVID-19 and hadn't even been watching the ceremony on TV because he didn't expect to win.

He admitted on the 'Good Hanf with Amy Poehler' podcast: "I never win! I wasn't even watching, I was watching 'The Brutalist'.

"Then someone said turn it on and I was stunned. That's what Selena Gomez said, 'We always lose.'

"In this experience of Only Murders in the Building - we're starting our fifth season - absolutely never had a consideration. Not remotely.

"The publicist sends you things, 'SAG Predictions,' and it was always like, 'Well if it isn't Jeremy Allen White, I'll tell you it will be Jason Segel.' It was not even close."

Asked how he thought he had won, he quipped: "I guess I'm beloved. I've become this stupid icon."
