The Trade Minister's been seeking more information about the numbers the US is using to justify new tariffs

The Trade Minister's been seeking more information about the numbers the US is using to justify new tariffs

Donald Trump's rolled out tariffs of at least 10-percent on almost all goods.

His administration claims New Zealand imposes a 20-percent tariff on US goods, when our average tariff on US goods is actually less than two-percent.

Todd McClay says he's received a report on the discrepancy overnight.

He says they appear to have factored in the difference in the value of trade last year, which is quite different from a tariff rate.
