Excitement as weight loss drug Wegovy hits our shores, but a warning that it won't be a silver bullet

Multiple pharmacists have told our newsroom it's set to hit New Zealand shelves next week.

It's not funded by Pharmac, so users will have to pay and get a prescription for the weekly injectable which suppresses appetite.

Weight loss physician Dr Lara Courtenay says it needs to be paired with a healthy diet.

She's concerned some won't eat properly while on the drug.

The company behind Wegovy is also trying to bring a similar drug for managing diabetes called Ozempic onto our shores.
