Two people drowned yesterday - one in Akaroa and the other in Lower Kaimai.
Two others were hospitalised in serious to critical conditions - after being pulled from the water in Riwaka and Mahurangi East.
Another is in a moderate condition after an event at South Piha.
A search is also underway for a man swept down the Waikato river, near Graham Island.
Water Safety chief executive Glen Scanlon says more people head to the water when it's hot and that's when people find themselves in trouble - because conditions look good.
