    Jessica Alba, Lily Gladstone and Kate Mara have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences

    The organisation - which is behind the annual Oscars award ceremony and is tasked with "recognising and celebrating" the film industry, inspiring young artists and preserving film history - has extended invitations to 487 artists and ex ecutives across 19 categories


    'Killers of the Flower Moon' star Lily has been named alongside 'Trigger Warning' actress Jessica and 'Black Mirror' star Kate.

    Other names invited this year include Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Catherine O'Hara, Jason Clarke and Tia Carrere.

    The organisation has invited 19 Oscar winners and 71 nominees to join, with 56 percent of new members coming from 56 countries or territories outside the United States.

    Meanwhile, 41 percent are from underrepresented enthic and racial communities, while 44 percent identify as women.

    Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said in a joint statement: "We are thrilled to welcome this year's class of new members to the Academy.

    "These remarkably talented artists and professionals from around the world have made a significant impact on our filmmaking community."

    Those who have been invited are deemed to "have distinguished themselves by their contributions to motion pictures".

    The organisation notes that "across all initiatives, the Academy connects global audiences - its members, the film industry and film fans - through their shared passion for making and watching films".

    As well as actors, other categories represented include casting directors, cinematographers, costume designers, directors, documentary, ex ecutives and film editors.

    There are also invitees for makeup artists and hairstylists, marketing and public relations, music, producers, production and technology, production design, short films and feature animation, sound, visual effects, writers and artist representatives.

    The Academy added: "Membership selection is based on professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity remaining a priority."

    Meanwhile, it's noted that "those who accept" the invite will be "the only additions" to the membership this year.
