Tremendous pressure on the health system is seeing some people booted from hospital waitlists

Tremendous pressure on the health system is seeing some people booted from hospital waitlists

A letter obtained by RNZ reveals some referrals from an orthopaedic clinic are being knocked back.

Royal College of GPs Medical Director Dr Luke Bradford says services are overwhelmed with demand - and struggling to meet the health targets set out by the Ministry of Health.

He says it's getting to the point where people have to be really unwell or very disabled to be seen.

Bradford says he's seen patients in wheelchairs waiting nine-to-12 months, having to go onto opioid medicines and needing full time care.
