A woman's critically injured following a shooting in Christchurch's Wainoni

She was found with what appears to be a serious gunshot wound at a property on Shortland Street just before nine last night.

Police say they're searching for the person responsible, who fled the scene in a vehicle.

A scene guard has remained in place overnight and members of the public can expect a Police presence in the area.

Residents say both ends of the street were blocked by armed police, with no one allowed to come or go.
