An investigation is underway after a West Auckland man died self-isolating at home

An investigation is underway after a West Auckland man died self-isolating at home

The audit will review phone calls the 68-year-old Glen Eden Imam made to the Covid-19 helpline, before his death on November 10.

It will be conducted by Waitemata District Health Board's Chief Medical Officer - on top of a coronial inquest into the cause of death.

The man's daughter alleges call takers never directed her father to go to hospital - instead offering throat lozenges and paracetamol.

She says her father was told his symptoms were normal, despite coughing up blood in his final days.

She says his English wasn't perfect and the family wants to know why he wasn't offered an interpreter.

A report is expected next month.
