Jamie Lynn Spears has recalled the negative reaction towards her teenage pregnancy

The 33-year-old actress - who is best known as the younger sister of pop superstar Britney Spears - plays Noreen Fitzgibbons in the Netflix series 'Sweet Magnolias' and could relate to her character's pregnancy storyline because it felt similar to what she experienced when she learned she was expecting Maddy, now 16, with then-boyfriend Casey Aldridge at such a young age

She told Popternative: "Especially with Norine, there were a lot of things I identified with but having the perspective of what other people see and what you're feeling is really unique.

"Especially Norine being in a very different situation. She was a mistress, she was pregnant.

"It was not necessarily a pregnancy that was like 'Wow, we're so excited, you've been waiting to get pregnant.

"And with me, I got pregnant at 16 so it wasn't like everyone was joyous about it, it was quite the opposite."

The former 'Zoey 101' star- who is now married to Jamie Watson and has six-year-old daughter Ivey with him - was able to gain some "perspective and self-reflection" about her own life as a result of the storyline, which saw her alter-ego fall pregnant to a man she had been having an affair with.

She said: "So I think when you get to have some perspective and self-reflection as to what you're really experiencing and then getting to relive that, it's like therapy for me. Being able to take parts of this character that heal [me] has been my favourite part of Norine.

"That's been a really big part of my growth as a character and as a person."
