A man who pulled a driver from a car about to catch fire is being hailed a hero

Del was first on scene after the vehicle crashed into a power pole in Papatoetoe about 3am.

South Auckland police are praising his actions.

Inspector Kay Lane says he was a great help to emergency services.

She says not only did he stop after coming across a crash, he also put aside his own personal safety to intervene.
