    A 24-year-old Danish backpacker has allegedly been raped in a cemetery, after hitching a ride


    Police say the woman was picked up outside Hamilton on Thursday.

    They say the woman was driven about 80 kilometres to a secluded cemetery near Hikutaia, where the man allegedly attacked her.

    A man was arrested and charged with rape an hour later.

    He's been granted interim name suppression and will reappear in court next month.

    Police say 'key features' revealed to them by the man, led to his arrest.
