Momentum was traded regularly, but two final quarter goals sealed the win for New Zealand.

Luuka Jones has qualified third for tomorrow's semi-finals in the K1 canoe slalom.

For the first time since Athens in 2004, the US men's basketball team has lost at the Olympics.

France, who knocked the Americans out of contention in the World Cup two years ago, won 83-76 in the opening game for both teams at Tokyo.

Until then, the US had won 25 consecutive matches.

Four-time Olympic champion Simone Biles' campaign has had some early struggles.

It's the first time since 2010 the US women failed to post the top score of the day at a world championships or Olympics.

Golfer Lydia Ko has finished tied for sixth, five shots behind Australian winner Minjee Lee at the Evian Championship major in France.

He's joined the Australian training camp in Queensland, after most recently playing in Japan.

Wellington may miss hosting a Bledisloe Cup rugby test, as the implications of a paused Trans-Tasman bubble are worked through.

Australia was due to take on the All Blacks in Auckland on August 7, then in Perth two weeks later before the third scheduled test in Wellington on August 28.

However, AAP reports tests could be played in New Zealand on August 7 and 14, before flying to Perth for match three a week later.

Wellington's Sky Stadium is booked for the Beervana festival on August 14, meaning another venue may need to be found.
