A two-hectare bushfire in the Upper Hutt suburb Trentham is now under control

A two-hectare bushfire in the Upper Hutt suburb Trentham is now under control

Fire and Emergency says crews are still on the scene at Evergreen Crescent, where they were called about three-pm.

A third helicopter is now assisting firefighters until nightfall.

Videos posted on social media show large pillars of black smoke billowing close to peoples homes as residents look on.

People from about ten properties in Evergreen Crescent were earlier warned to prepare for evacuation out of caution.
