The New Zealand representative faces surgery on his knee as a result.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson claimed Whitehead is a recidivist with hip drop tackles.

Smith's had no chance to dart out from dummy half on crutches in the surgeon's car park when a Channel Nine reporter bore down to ask him if he held any resentment.



Roosters halfback Sam Walker's also set for season-ending knee surgery.

Whitehead - who was sin-binned twice in the match - faces a three-week ban.
