The Black Knights fell behind 2-1 at halftime, before the second half was marred by torrential rain, leaving a waterlogged surface that saw the ball often get stuck.
Skipper Jake Brimmer says the heavy downpours aren't at fault.
Auckland FC remain third on the ladder ahead of next weekend's New Zealand derby against the Wellington Phoenix.
